How to Use a Notebook Effectively

As your child travels along their educational path, it’s no surprise that they’re going to need notebooks. If your child is new to taking notes or you feel they could benefit from more organized notes, The Tutoring Center in Wichita has some basic tips for getting your child started on the studying path.
  • Start by separating notes into individual books designated for each subject. Whilst there is a great convenience to having just one note book, it can get confusing mixing your math notes with your science notes.
  • On the inside cover of all notebooks, write basic contact information like a name and email address. This will make it easier for the notebook to be returned should it be accidentally dropped around school or on the bus ride home.
  • Keep the date and title reference formats consistent throughout all notebooks. This will allow a much faster way to search through individual books without having to change index methods.
  • Remove any potential distractions by keeping each notebook clean and free from doodles, mistakes or food stains. Notes should be kept clearly visible and without any distractions.
  • Create a separate notebook for formal or professional learning. If you find that you are struggling at school with certain subjects, transcribe difficult notes into a separate note book and discuss these in particular with your tutor.
