Algebra help in Wichita, KS.

01/19/2015
If you’ve noticed that there are areas in which your child is not succeeding to your expectations in school, given the recent report card, you may be curious as to how you can help your child to improve in certain areas. Today The Tutoring Center in Wichita would like to give you four ideas to help your child improve in his or her study skills and reach greater academic success.

Start with ensuring that your child is aware of his or her strengths. Take the time to help your child focus on passions and activities in which he or she is already doing well. It’s important to remind your child that you see those successes and that you want him or her to continue succeeding in those areas. However, this also means that your child will not need to spend as much time studying or practicing in those areas of strength.

That being said, your child should work on understanding the areas of struggle he or she has. Those are the areas your child should be focusing on improving. Spend the most time in math, if your child is needing help in that area, doing homework each night, even if it isn’t assigned, to ensure that there is daily practice.

Likewise, when your child knows there will be a test soon, he or she should make it a point to study daily for at least a week leading up to the exam. This will help ensure that your child isn’t cramming the night before the test. It’s best to take the time to study prior. This way, if there is an aspect your child really doesn’t grasp, he or she will have the opportunity to ask for assistance before it is too late. You can help your child become more motivated to study daily by providing a study space in your home.

Lastly, remind your child how important it is to take excellent notes when the teacher is lecturing. He or she can compare notes with a classmate to ensure all key concepts were written down and can of course go back and ask the teacher for clarification on any aspect he or she did not understand. Great notes are not only a way to help you reiterate what you’ve learned, but of course provide a class by class study guide to exams.

Even when your child has started to understand and use these skills to improve his or her study habits, it is still possible that he or she will need assistance.
